Bi-Rite is known throughout the city for its stunning local, farm-direct produce selection and the delicious samples that we offer! Each item is selected by Simon, our Produce manager, who ensures that everything we carry is just as fresh as what you would buy at the farmers' market. It is important to us to support local, sustainable, and organic farming, and we buy from small family-owned farms whenever we can. We are proud to have ongoing, direct relationships with the following farms:

Balakian Farm - CCOF

• A 35 acre family farm located in Reedley, CA (200 miles from SF)
• Bi-Rite has been getting produce directly from Balakian for 6 years
• We get from them:

• The best stone fruit in the bay! Yellow peaches, white peaches, yellow nectarines, white nectarines, pluots and plums
• 15 varieties of heirloom tomatoes
• Mixed summer squash
• Sweet grapes and amazing pomegranites!

Mariquita Farm - uses organic farming techniques

• A small family farm located near Watsonville, CA
• Run by Andy Griffin, whose passion for produce has led him to several exciting efforts in spreading the word about farming. One is his online newsletter, the Ladybug Letter, and the other is his radio show airing on KUSP, Life On the Farm.
• We get from them:

• Broccoli di Cicco - yummy Italian broccoli variety
• Wide assortment of greens
• Genovese basil & San Marzano tomatoes
• In late summer, lots of varieties of eggplant and peppers

TD Willey Farm - CCOF

• A 75 acre farm located in central San Joaquin valley
• They have been farming since 1980. The Willeys have developed a year-round production system which allows them to offer full-time, year-round employment to 55 workers.
• We get from them:

• Sweet bunched carrots
• Great red slicer and Roma tomatoes
• Potatoes, eggplant, & basil

Blue Moon Organic Farm - CCOF

• Located in Aptos, CA
• Blue Moon was founded two years ago by Greg Rawlings and Patrick DeYoung, alumns of Swanton Berry Farm and refugees of the corporate world. They were recently profiled in the San Francisco Chronicle.
• We get from them:

• Epic "Chandler" strawberries
• Super sweet blackberries
• Cut flowers soon to come!

Two Dog Farm - CCOF

• North of Davenport, CA
• Conserve energy using "Dry Farming" an irrigation-less technique (less water means more concentrated tomato flavor)
• Their Early Girl tomatoes from Late July through November, and are the most anticipated item of the year in the store.

Happy Boy Farms - CCOF

• Owned by Greg Beccio, who has been farming since late 80s. Happy Boy, with just 175 acres, is one of country's largest producers of organic heirloom tomatoes. Greg believes in listening to the ideas of those with whom he works, and as a result Happy Boy's 100-item produce mix is a reflection of a collaborative effort on the farm.

• Happy Boy is our newest partnership, enabling us to carry local, organic versions of a number of items:
