Celebrating a Year on Divisadero Street with Special Offers!

WebBannerDivisBirthday

It’s hard to believe, but it’s already been a year since we opened our second Bi-Rite Market on Divisadero Street in the Western Addition, bringing our mission of creating community through food to a whole new neighborhood. It was a big undertaking that took several years to bring to fruition, and all of that work has been worth it! We’ve felt at home in the Mission District since Sam Mogannam‘s family first took over the original Bi-Rite neighborhood grocery 50 years ago, and we’ve continued to grow Bi-Rite into a family of businesses with our Creamery & Bakeshop and our non-profit community space, 18 Reasons, all located on the same block of 18th Street. It has been an honor over the past 12 months to expand that work into another burgeoning, vibrant area of San Francisco. From the day we first cast open our new doors on Divisadero Street, the people and businesses of the Western Addition have made us feel welcome, and we are incredibly grateful.

So, to celebrate our One-Year Anniversary at Bi-Rite Market Divisadero, we’re offering special products and great values in every department of our store from Monday, March 31 through Sunday, April 6. Most of these will be available both at Divisadero AND at our original 18th Street location, so stop on in and enjoy!

Brand New Bakery Treats from Bi-Rite Creamery!

Heading to the Bi-Rite Creamery or our Scoop Shop on Divisadero for our world-famous ice cream is always a treat. But you can also find a flurry of our baked options on the shelves at Bi-Rite Market, including a whole menu of brand new seasonal offerings. Everything is prepared by hand in house by our talented team of pastry chefs, and delivered fresh from our Creamery and Bakery on 18th Street.

midnight

Midnight Cupcakes

Our cupcakes offer an ideal balance between full, fluffy cake and rich, luscious frosting. Try the new Midnight Cupcake with Coffee Buttercream. They’re dark and intense, and dusted with espresso powder. The new Banana Cupcake with Honey Cinnamon Buttercream is a lighter option with strains of honey and cinnamon. The Chocolate Salted Caramel Cupcake takes our most popular ice cream flavor and reimagines it in cupcake form.

TCHO brownies

TCHO Brownie

Our TCHO Brownie with Cream Cheese Swirl is a treat for the eyes as well as the palate and is made using chocolate from our good friends at local TCHO Chocolate. We started using their chocolate exclusively in our ice creams and baked goods last year, and just love working with them. The tops of these brownies resemble cut marble, and the interplay between the cheese and chocolate flavors is absolutely decadent.

boston cream

Boston Cream Pie

We’re also well-known for our pies and we’ve got two fantastic new ones, featuring our take on beloved classics: Boston Cream Pie and Coconut Cream Pie. Our Boston Cream Pie is an exercise in complimentary flavors and textures, with bittersweet chocolate on top, and organic tapioca and vanilla highlighted by touches of apple and citrus in the center. The Coconut Cream Pie is rich and sweet, with subtle coconut accented by cinnamon and lemon.

cookies

And we’ve got new cookies! Mexican Wedding with Pecans, Toffee Chip, Classic Oatmeal Raisin, Apricot Brown Butter, Coconut Macaroons and Salted Lavender. Our cookies are festive and designed with complicated flavor profiles to celebrate the seasons. Try them with a pint of ice cream!

Beautiful, Festive, Scrumptious holiday offerings from Bi-Rite Creamery

The ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery is regularly cited as being among the best in San Francisco–an honor that we value tremendously. All of our ice cream is handmade in small batches with organic dairy from Straus Family Creamery, and we’re always working to come up with unique, fun, interesting flavors – some of them available year round, some just as seasonal specialties.

BiRite_Holiday-353

Toffee Bark and Peppermint Bark

In the latter camp are two ice cream flavors that are favorites among both our guests and our staff: Eggnog and Candy Cane. Our Eggnog Ice Cream is super rich and creamy with a strong kick of brandy and nutmeg (this flavor contains alcohol). Our Candy Cane Ice Cream, eagerly anticipated all year, has a vanilla and peppermint base with chunks of minty candy cane. The richness of the vanilla offsets the sweet accent of the candy cane flavor for a balanced treat with just the right amount of sweetness. It also pairs beautifully with our Mint Chip ice cream.

All our confections and baked goods are hand-made fresh at the Creamery, perfect for enjoying yourself or as gift options. Our Peppermint Bark is made with dark chocolate from our local friends at San Francisco-based TCHO Chocolate and topped with a layer of crunchy peppermint pieces, while its cousin Toffee Bark, made with TCHO’s milk chocolate, is topped with chunks of house-made almond toffee.

Bûche de Noël

Perhaps the most treasured treat from the Creamery this season is our Bûche de Noël. Kris and Anne, owners of Bi-Rite Creamery, spent weeks perfecting this gorgeous traditional Christmas cake. It features chocolate roulade with milk chocolate butter cream and chocolate glaze, and is decorated with adorable meringue mushrooms, pistachios and sparkling candied rosemary. This cake really is almost too beautiful to eat. Almost. It also makes a lovely New Year’s Eve dessert, paired with a special bottle of champagne or sparkling wine! Pre-order it and our other holiday desserts, along with your complete holiday meal, here.

Holiday Cutout Cookies, waiting to be gobbled up!

Last but certainly not least is our Box of Holiday Cookies. This hand-decorated assortment of a dozen festive holiday cutout cookies includes frosted smiling gingerbread men and sparkling gingerbread stars, along with sugar cookies and other holiday faves, all made with love in our Bakery.

Our Creamery and Markets are full of truly special desserts and treats to share with friends and family. Come on in for recommendations! We look forward to helping you to select the perfect finishing touch for your holiday meals, or the ideal gift for friends and family. Happy Holidays!

Salty Ginger Sundae, Divis contest winner!

We’ve spent about three years working towards this moment, so today is all about celebrating the long, winding path that brought us here. And what better way to do so than by treating ourselves to the newest additions to our Divis menu: the winners of our Divis Sandwich and Sundae contest!

The Giuseppe: Fra’ Mani salami and mortadella, provolone, lettuce, red onion, tomato, dijon mustard, pepperoncini, and lemon aioli on an Acme Rustic Baguette (congrats to Joseph Slattery!)

Opening is so sweet!

The Salty Ginger: Ginger ice cream, ginger snaps, sea salt, chocolate fudge, and whipped cream (congrats to Zoe Byl!)

Now that the construction is complete, it’s time to start the important work of building relationships with our guests. Our 60 Divis staff members are eager to meet and feed you. Plus, a bunch of our passionate food makers are joining us to give out tastes of their cheese, jams and more: check out the Divis events on our calendar here.

See you soon! And now more than ever, please let us know how we can better serve you.

Guess this leaves only one thing…Opening March 13th!

divis team floor

Pre-opening Divis staff meeting

We can’t even wait to open our doors at 550 Divisadero (at Hayes). Just like our 18th Street Market, Divis will be open every day from 9am-9pm and will be a one-stop shop for farm direct produce, a full-service butcher counter, deli with prepared foods from our on-site kitchen, natural wine & spirits, fresh bread, local dairy… and of course important doodads like toilet paper and deodorant.

shak its time

It’s time!

What took us so long? We renovated and retrofitted the interior of the building –which was one of the original Safeways—while taking care to preserve the art deco façade. And we’re upping the ante from our 18th St. Market: Divis has an old world style cut-to-order cheese counter and an ice cream scoop shop right inside (yes, Sam’s sundae with chocolate ice cream, Maldon sea salt, bergamot olive oil and whipped cream will be here)!

We hope you’re ready to give us feedback on what dishes and items you love and what we can do better, so we can evolve together. We’ve got a 30 year lease, so we’re planning to be around for a while and we look forward to feeding the neighborhood for years.

Big thanks to our new neighbors for weathering the construction. And thanks to everyone who has already made us feel welcome—from the other Divisadero Merchants to school and church leaders from the Western Addition, Haight, Fillmore, and Hayes Valley neighborhoods that so richly intersect here!facade feb

DIY: Contest for Bi-Rite Divisadero Special Sandwich & Sundae!

sandwich sundae contest

We’re opening our doors at 550 Divisadero in mid-March, and we’d love your help with the menu. So put on your chef’s hat and ponder this:

If Bi-Rite Divis were a sandwich, what would it look like? What would it taste like?

What about if it were an ice cream sundae? Would it be gooey? Salty? Spicy?

We’re asking you, our talented and vocal creative community, to help us create a special sandwich and sundae that will only be available at Bi-Rite Divis. We’re looking for a new frontier in deli and Creamery tastiness. No idea is too crazy, far flung or niche… think big, think small, think about what makes the Western Addition neighborhood tick!

Just make sure it’s finger lickin’ good.

Email us to submit your idea (each sundae or sandwich idea must include a menu name as well as the ingredients/components) for either a sandwich or sundae (or both!) by Friday, February 22, and we promise to salivate over every last entry until we select the winners. In addition to bragging rights, the two winners will receive a free festival pass ($95 value) to our first ever San Francisco Food & Farm Film Festival at the Roxie Theater, including the opening night bash at Four Barrel coffee. And of course, the free sandwich or sundae of their creation on opening day :-)

So what do YOU want to be eating in March??
