Founder, Bi-Rite Family of Businesses
A San Francisco native and graduate from City College of San Francisco’s Hotel and Restaurant Management Program, Sam is the second generation owner of Bi-Rite Market and the founder of the Bi-Rite Family of Businesses (which includes two San Francisco neighborhood Markets, Bi-Rite Creamery, Bi-Rite Catering, and Bi-Rite Farms). He stepped into the family grocery business in 1997, after working as a chef in his own restaurant. Sam is author of the book Bi-Rite Market’s Eat Good Food: A Grocer’s Guide to Shopping, Cooking, and Creating Community Through Food, and is a popular speaker and sought-after advisor on organic and sustainable food. Sam volunteers on the Board of Directors for the Specialty Food Association, the Advisory Board for the Good Food Awards, and is often asked by the San Francisco Mayor’s Office to consult on policy change having to do with small business, employee benefits, and healthy food access.
Culinary Director, Bi-Rite Family of Businesses
As Culinary Director for the Bi-Rite Family of Businesses, Jason leverages his 20 years of experience to create, develop, and drive the overall culinary vision through menu and product development. His resume includes stints as Culinary Director for the Rudd Group (Dean & Deluca, Oakville Grocery, Rudd Winery, Edge Hill Winery, Rudd Farms), Culinary Director for La Cocina, Culinary Director for the Tyler Florence Group, Project Manager for the Delfina restaurant group, Executive Chef at Whole Foods Market, and Executive Sous Chef at the Carneros Inn.
General Manager, Bi-Rite Catering
A San Francisco native, Tom graduated alongside Bi-Rite’s Sam Mogannam from City College of San Francisco’s Hotel and Restaurant Management Program before embarking on a hospitality career that has taken him around the world. Working as a chef in kitchens from Basel, Switzerland, to the Cayman Islands, to one-Michelin starred Le Bellecoeur in Paris, France, Tom returned to San Francisco to partner with Sam in his restaurant Rendezvous du Monde. With nearly 30 years of hospitality experience, Tom returned to the Bi-Rite family in 2012 to help lead the continued growth of the Bi-Rite Catering and Commissary kitchens.
Catering Manager, Bi-Rite Catering
Michael brings 20 years of hospitality experience to his role as Catering Manager. Having worked in the San Francisco restaurants Campton Place and Flying Saucer alongside renowned chefs Todd Humphries and Albert Tordjman, Michael channeled his culinary skills towards the catering world and has devoted his talents to catering for the past 15 years. Since 2009 he has been an integral part of the Bi-Rite Catering team, playing a primary role in developing longstanding relationships with guests and vendors.
Catering Sales Manager, Bi-Rite Catering
Sue began her hospitality career growing up on her family’s orange grove, though her first formal role in the industry was working the window at her local Dairy Queen. She has since rounded out her experience managing event sales both international and domestic, with a proven track record of developing longstanding relationships and producing outstanding events. She has managed event sales and relationships for her clients including San Francisco’s Moscone Center, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Carlson Marketing Group and Mosaic Event Management . Sue’s passion for creating community through food shines in her role at Bi-Rite, coaching and leading the sales team to new levels of excellent service and good food.
Executive Chef, Bi-Rite Catering
Eduardo has over 25 years of experience as a chef, having cooked at such landmark restaurants as San Francisco’s Stars. He was introduced to Sam Mogannam over 20 years ago and has been an integral part of the Bi-Rite Family ever since, beginning in the kitchen of Sam Mogannam’s Rendezvous du Monde. Eduardo began running the kitchen at Bi-Rite Market when it reopened in 1998, and has seen the family of businesses grow from five to now over 300 employees, all the while maintaining his creativity and passion for making truly good food.
Sous Chef, Bi-Rite Catering
Javier has always been culinary-minded – his career began on his family’s farm in Honduras raising cows and chickens. He joined the Bi-Rite Market kitchen team in 2005 and continued to develop his passion and skill for creating seasonal, delicious food. When Bi-Rite Catering was established as its own entity, Javier was a natural fit to help lead the kitchen team and continue to teach others about Bi-Rite’s culinary programs.
