Sweetening the Deal on Chocolates

Sweet Weeks are here!  Now through Wed. Dec. 15th, a purchase of 6 or more of any chocolate or confection item will be 10% off. Our wall of chocolate has never been sweeter, whether you’re looking for stocking stuffers or gifts for friends and co-workers–or treat yourself, we won’t tell!

Here are some of the highlights from our chocolate section (which is better than it’s ever been); we’ve sure come a long way from the chocolate bars our parents ate. Don’t forget to ask your cashier for a gift bag–we have several sizes–with tissue and ribbon, and you’re on your way to the party…

Askinosie Peppermint Bark: “From Bean to Bark”: Made from single-origin dark chocolate, then layered with buttery white chocolate, Askinosie’s Peppermint Bark is topped off with crushed bits of natural peppermint. It’s hand-crafted in small-batches and then packaged in a rustic balsa box.

Mast Brothers: These American craft bean-to-bar chocolates by way of Brooklyn were long anticipated by Alli, Kate and I.  Each bar is handmade and hand wrapped in beautiful ornamental paper and would make a perfect gift. The Grand Cru, dark chocolate with 81% cacao, is crafted from beans harvested under the the forest canopies in Patanemo, Venezuela; look for buttery notes of cinnamon and spice–simply elegant. The Fleur de Sel, with hand-harvested sea salt, has become an NYC classic. The Almonds & Sea Salt incorporates biodynamic almonds from the Anderson family farm in central California, which are roasted in olive oil and sea salt, roughly chopped and distributed over single origin Dominican Republic dark chocolate. Finally, the Brooklyn Blend with 74% cacao is Mast Brothers’ first house blend; a combo of the brothers’ favorite beans from around the world, it’s chocolatey with hints of plum, tobacco and earth.

Vosges Exotic Holiday Chocolate Bars: From the chocolatiers that perfected the bacon-chocolate combo,  try the Marzipan, Peppermint Candy Cane, Bapchi’s Caramel Toffee, or Gingerbread Toffee bars, or try a sampler of three bars in the mini-bar holiday library box.

Sweet Revolution Golden Pecan Box: Handmade weekly by the batch in San Francisco by Anastasia Hägerström, Sweet Revolution’s all-natural, organic caramels are made from nothing but maple, cream, honey, butter, sea salt, vanilla bean, and sometimes nuts.  They’ve been quite the sensation here at the market and this year, Anastasia has created a limited edition holiday box: 24kt gold-dusted Golden Pecan, available in boxes of 12 with a hand stamped graphic card.

Cocoa Puro Kakawa Whole Cocoa Beans: Fresh roasted whole cocoa beans enrobed in layers of white, milk and dark chocolate and dusted in velvety cocoa.  You gotta try these!

Fine and Raw: Another Brooklyn chocolatier, these artisan confections are made using conscious ingredients and innovative low heat techniques to keep the chocolate’s raw vitality and flavor.  The Mesquite, with Ecquador cocoa, is a sassy, slightly textured chocolate bar with notes of caramel from lucuma fruits, mellow sweetness from yacon roots and smokey/earthy notes from mesquite pods.

Michael Recchiuti: We’re the only place you can find the Burgundy Box with 32 of Michael’s premier classic truffles. We also have his Peppermint Thins in gift or stocking stuffer sizes.

Neo Cocoa Peppermint Truffle: Made to order by hand in San Francisco, truffle-maker Christine Doerr is now dabbling in seasonal flavors, with Fall’s Warm Ginger box making way for winter’s Cool Peppermint box.

Maison Bouche Les Petits: French-inspired chocolatier Diane Beaty is offering these beautiful holiday sampler boxes.  Available in both “lait” (includes two mini bars each of Eggnog, Mint, Fleur de Sel, Cafe, Cherry Clafoutis and Tarte Tatin) and “noir” (includes two mini bars each of Eggnog, Mint, Fleur de Sel, Café, Cherry Clafoutis and Pear with Black Pepper) chocolate.

Michael Misher 12-piece Holiday Truffle Box: A chocolatier of the European tradition, Michael’s chocolate bars are a staff favorite here.  The holiday truffle box includes seasonal flavors like advocaat (egg liquor ganche), mint marshmallow, gingerbread and more.

Socola “By the Fireside” Winter Truffle Box: This dynamic duo of sisters recently released their seasonal, limited edition holiday collection; like all of their truffles, these are made with local and organic ingredients, including Straus Creamery butter and cream. “By the Fireside” includes flavors like chai baba chai (with Assam tea, cardamom, cloves, black peppercorn and cinnamon), hazelnut praline, and pumpkin burnt caramel with Hawaiian sea salt and a splash of brandy
